Your pardon won't open
the US border.

Canada seals your record. But the FBI keeps their own copy. You need a US Entry Waiver (Form I-192) to cross the border legally. We're building a guided tool to walk you through the entire application.

The problem

Two countries. Two systems.

Turned away at the border

US officers run your fingerprints through the FBI database. Your Canadian pardon is invisible to them.

Denied boarding

Airlines share passenger data with US Customs. You can be flagged before you even board.

Permanent on FBI records

The FBI doesn't recognize Canadian pardons. Your record stays in their system indefinitely.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need my pardon first?

Not necessarily. You can apply for a waiver without a record suspension. But having your pardon granted strengthens the application significantly.

How long does the waiver take?

Processing takes 6–12 months. The waiver is initially valid for 1 year, and renewals can be granted for up to 5 years.

What are the government fees?

The US government charges $930 USD for Form I-192. FBI fingerprints cost about $50 CAD. Total out-of-pocket is roughly $1,200–$1,400 CAD.

Can I drive across the border?

Yes. The I-192 waiver works for all ports of entry — land crossings, airports, and seaports.

What if I've been denied entry before?

Previous denials don't disqualify you. In fact, a denial creates an official record of inadmissibility which makes the waiver application clearer.
